Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I do lessons for?

You may have a certain number in mind, and we can work with that. If you don’t, it depends on whether we’ve reached your goals or we see that it's only a matter of time and practice.

This can take as long as 4 to 12 sessions, or even longer. My aim is to get you the results you need as soon as realistically possible, and that is dependent on your progress as well. We can also discuss this along the way.

Some students have been with me for a few years, and that’s because their goals continue to change and there are more things they’d like to work on. That’s also something to think about.

Do you have a specific teaching method you use?

While there are popular methods like Estill and Speech-Level Singing, I don't specialise in a specific method. I am trained in more classical pedagogy, so I tend to teach that in a contemporary context, but I may pull in different teaching techniques, should they be helpful to the student.

If you want a teacher that is specialised in a specific method alone, however, I may be able to refer you to someone who can help.

Can I cancel anytime?

I would prefer that you let me know at least 2 weeks in advance, so that I can prepare proper closure materials for you.

Just to let you know that I may still follow-up with you just to plan classes accordingly, so it would be helpful to know if you will be continuing or not.

Will I have a certificate at the end of these lessons?

At the moment, there is no accreditation. These sessions are solely meant to equip you for singing in real life settings.

However, if you want to get an exam qualification, then we can talk about going through the Trinity College Rock & Pop Vocal curriculum.

I'm really nervous about it, but I still want to try. What can I do about it?

That's absolutely normal! Once again, lessons are conducted in a safe, friendly, non-judgmental space, while still giving honest, constructive feedback, so you don't have to worry about being criticised harshly.

You can simply take all the time that you need to work through your nerves before you sign up - I know it can be a pretty big step!
